Center for the Study of Race and Democracy

The Center for the Study of Race and Democracy (CSRD) facilitates anti-racism research and programming dedicated to reshaping policies that lead to the end of racial inequality. By supporting pedagogical and policy innovations of scholars, activists, and experts working to eliminate systemic racism in educational, corporate, government, civic and cultural spaces, we aim to foster new ways of implementing racial justice initiatives dedicated to the achievement of a just, equitable, and inclusive society. The Center currently coordinates both the CSRD Student Fellows and Faculty Fellows research programs, Catalyst Living Learning Community in conjunction with UT Housing & Dining, hosts panels and keynote lectures with authors, local activists, UT faculty, and renowned thought leaders in the William C. Powers Speaker Series, and is developing anti-racism curriculum for executive leadership teams.

The CSRD’s mission is to promote engaged research and scholarship focused on the ways issues of race, democracy, and public policy impact the lives of global citizens. These internships are an incredible opportunity to work closely with the Center to engage with the campus community and work with faculty on research topics associated with race and diversity. Interns will also be expected to perform other administrative tasks as necessary. 

Requirements: Applicants should have a demonstrated record of engagement with issues of equity anddiversity on or off campus at the undergraduate level, a willingness to challenge their own beliefs, and be a self-starter who can work independently and as part of a team. Technical skills needed are proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel. Experience with Photoshop is a plus.

• A cover letter of no more than a page describing your demonstrated commitment to issues of equity and diversity on campus and/or in your community, why you are interested in CSRD and what you will bring the program, and how CSRD will impact you personally, academically and professionally.
• A résumé
• One UT recommendation. Students are invited to also submit a second, optional recommendation from an individual external to UT if they deem it appropriate. A second recommendation is not required.
