Paige Harden has published an op-ed in The New York Times entitled "Why Progressives Should Embrace the Genetics of Education." The op-ed comments on a recent study published in Nature Geneticsthat found thousands of DNA variants that are correlated with educational attainment. Arguing that this type of genetic research is not, as it at first may seem, a new form of eugenics, Harden states that discovering specific DNA variants that are correlated with education can help us in two ways: 1) by revealing "the injustice of our so-called meritocracy" and 2) by helping scientists understand "how different environments also affect that success."
