Postdoctoral Training

Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award - NICHD Postdoctoral Traineeship

The Population Research Center (PRC) at The University of Texas at Austin is not accepting applications for Fall 2025 for the NICHD-funded postdoctoral positions. These positions are for one year, with the potential for one-year renewals. The PRC, an interdisciplinary research and training unit at The University of Texas at Austin (UT), offers infrastructure support services and project development assistance for a highly productive, interdisciplinary group consisting of faculty, postdocs, graduate students, and undergraduates. Most of the research conducted at the PRC focuses on four overlapping thematic areas: Family Demography and Human Development; Education, Work, and Institutions; Population Health and Well-Being; and Reproductive, Maternal, and Infant Health.

As part of a research unit known for its collaborative culture, postdocs are expected to dedicate roughly half of their time to independent work and the other half to collaborative projects with faculty research associates. Additionally, postdocs are expected to attend the weekly PRC Friday Seminars, present at least once during these seminars throughout their period of support, and submit their research for presentation at the Population Association (PAA) meetings.

Applicants for the postdoctoral fellowships must hold a Ph.D. in sociology, demography, public health, family studies, or a related social science discipline. They must also be citizens or permanent residents of the United States at the time of appointment. Prospective candidates should reach out to PRC faculty scholars to identify shared interests and determine if one or more faculty can serve as mentors. We are not currently accepting applications at this time.

The University of Texas is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity. Funding for this position comes from the grant, T32 HD007081, Training Program in Population Studies, awarded to the Population Research Center at The University of Texas at Austin by the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development.
