Funding

Sources of financial support available to graduate students through the University and the Department of Psychology are fellowships, graduate research assistantships (GRAs), and teaching assistantships (TAs). The Department of Psychology provides TA or RA support to all current students who do not have fellowships or other sources of support. We offer such support for a minimum of five years.

Support is, of course, contingent upon satisfactory progress through our program. The current 12-month stipend is a minimun of $28,000. Students receive full tuition assistance, currently $4,464 per semester. (Texas does not have a state income tax.) Students who are either employed in benefits eligible academic positions or are on full fellowship are eligible for health insurance at no cost to the student.

We encourage students to seek external support from sources such as the National Research Council, the National Science Foundation, and private foundations. Incoming students are automatically considered for UT fellowships and do not need to complete a separate fellowship application.
