Dr. Trish Roberts-Miller's Demagoguery and Democracy Selected for Book Program

Dr. Trish Roberts-Miller, known for her work in the field of pedagogy of public argumentation, published her book "Demagoguery and Democracy" in 2017 raising consciousness of modern-day demagoguery. Her book was chosen as the reading for 2019-2020 by the University of Maryland's First-Year Book program. We congratulate Dr. Roberts-Miller on representing the department across academic institutions.

From the First-Year Book program's website on why this book was chosen:

"This lively book provides an even-handed rhetorical analysis of how the words and actions of powerful people can divide us. The author offers suggestions for what citizens can do to confront such behavior. In her view, any form of political discourse that “polarizes a complicated political situation into us (good) and them (some of whom are deliberately evil and the rest of whom are dupes)” is dangerous to democracy."

"Demagoguery and Democracy" can be purchased in Kindle and physical formats through Amazon.
