Religion in Latin America

These pages provide information, research, discussion, and analysis of religion in Latin America. They serve as a gateway for information on the Roman Catholic Church as a historical, social and political actor in Latin America from colonial times to the present. They also provide information on non-Catholic religiosity in Latin America, with special emphasis on mainline Protestantism, Pentecostalism, and Mormonism. These pages also offer information on non-Western religious expression in the region, including religions of the African diaspora, indigenous religions, and indigenous Christianity in Latin America. Finally, the reader is directed to information on non-Christian religions in Latin America, including Judaism and Islam.

The Religion in Latin America web site is maintained by the Department of Religious Studies at The University of Texas at Austin. For more information, contact Dr. Virginia Garrard-Burnett.
