Independent Research

Independent Research in Religious Studies for Undergraduates

If you are interested in independent research, you may decide to take our independent research course, R S 362 Independent Research in Religious Studies. In order to take R S 362, you must find a Religious Studies faculty member who is willing to supervise your research project. Once you and your prospective supervising faculty member have settled on a topic, you can fill out the R S 362 form and submit it to the Academic Advisor Michelle D. Note: Regardless of topic a student chooses to study, this course will not count towards any Area requirement, Primary Area, or Track. R S 362 will count as 3 upper-division hours in the Religious Studies major.

Students must meet the following prerequisites to be eligible for the R S 362 Independent Research in Religious Studies.

  • Upper-division standing
  • Nine hours of Religious Studies coursework
  • UT GPA of at least 3.0
  • R S GPA of at least 3.5
  • Strong research and writing skills. Completion of one, preferably two, writing intensive courses with a grade of B+ or higher is strongly preferred
  • Submit proposal by the deadline
