Appleman Graduate Fellowship
The Appleman Graduate Fellowship supports conference participation and research (including travel) on Jewish topics, and language training relevant to pursuing Jewish Studies research.
General Eligibility:
Any student enrolled in a graduate program at UT who undertakes research on any Jewish topic in the course of their graduate career.
Amount: Up to $1,000
Due date: Ongoing. Please note that applications will be reviewed until all budgeted funds for a given academic year have been disbursed.
How to Apply:
The application should include the following items:
- Completed application form
- A statement describing the project for which you are seeking funding (up to 500 words)
- A CV
- A budget (including other sources of funding secured or pending if applicable)
- A letter of support from the student's advisor
To complete your application, submit digital copies of all items:
Applications should be submitted in one email as Word or PDF attachments to scjs@austin.utexas.edu. Please note that applications should be submitted at least six weeks in advance of conferences, research trips, and training for which the applicant is seeking funds in order to allow for adequate time for the Graduate Fellowships Committee to review applications and for the funds to be disbursed, if awarded.

Jewish Studies Supplementary Graduate Fellowship
The Supplementary Graduate Fellowship (SGF) in Jewish Studies is intended for Ph.D. students
whose research is directly related or relevant to Jewish Studies. The fellowship can be used to
supplement a larger recruitment effort or to reward an excellent current student.
Stipend: Up to $5,000 (renewal is permitted)
Due date: February 14, 2025
Application Requirements:
- One-page cover letter submitted by the nominating faculty member. This letter should 1) explain how the student's proposed research/study supports the mission of Jewish Studies at UT 2) explain how the student's research would enrich the intellectual exchange in the student's home department and enhance links between the home department and other units 3) outline the student's scholarly promise 4) detail other support offered by the student's home department.

The Jewish Studies Graduate Fellowships Committee, which consists of faculty from the Schusterman Center and relevant departments, will review fellowship applications.
Rapoport Graduate Student Summer Fellowships
The Schusterman Center for Jewish Studies offers Rapoport Graduate Student Summer Fellowship in the amount of $5000 per award to graduate students at UT Austin for work on research or training in any area of Jewish Studies. Though the fellowship is open to all graduate students working on projects that engage Jewish Studies, preference will be given to students whose projects are centered in the field of Jewish Studies. To apply, please submit a project proposal (no longer than 4 pages double spaced) and a recent CV to scjs@austin.utexas.edu. Applicants are also requested to have a faculty adviser submit a confidential letter of recommendation on their behalf to the same email address.
Stipend: Up to $5,000
Due date: February 14, 2025

- Student's Curriculum Vitae/Resume
Additional Requested Material: Confidential Letter of Recommendation from a faculty advisor.

Rapoport Dissertation Writing Fellowship
The Schusterman Center for Jewish Studies offers the Rapoport Dissertation Writing Fellowship for one student per year writing a dissertation on a topic related to Jewish Studies. This fellowship is awarded to a student who is in candidacy and expected to graduate within the same academic year of the award. This fellowship provides a nine-month stipend in the amount of $25,000, in-state tuition to cover nine hours each semester in the year of the award, and an insurance supplement of $5,000.

- A project proposal (no longer than 4 pages double spaced)
- Recent Curriculum Vitae/Resume
- Requested confidential letter of recommendation from dissertation advisor
To apply, please submit a project proposal (no longer than 4 pages double spaced) and a recent CV to scjs@austin.utexas.edu. Applicants are also requested to have their dissertation adviser submit a confidential letter of recommendation on their behalf to the same email address. In the letter, the dissertation adviser should indicate the student’s progress on their dissertation and their expected defense date.
The Jewish Studies Graduate Fellowships Committee, which consists of faculty from the Schusterman Center and relevant departments, will review fellowship applications.
