WATCH: Prof. John Hoberman on Anti-Semitism and the Pittsburgh Synagogue Shooting

Social and cultural historian Prof. John Hoberman (Department of Germanic Studies) recently discussed the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting in an interview on Fox 7. Prof. Hoberman, who regularly teaches classes on anti-Semitism for the Schusterman Center, provided some historical context to the tragic events, "there is a long history that has provided various motives for people to demonize Jews, and to act out against them," commented Prof. Hoberman, "Jews have become a kind of all-purpose target for various groups who need an object of their hatred." Prof. Hoberman also called attention to the role of our social and political institutions in the ability to inflame or oppose minority violence.
