Undergraduates interested in academic study of the Russian, East European and Eurasian regions are eligible for a wide variety of funding and scholarships that can help pay for your college education. The section will highlight opportunities for students to fund their undergraduate education, international academic study, and career-oriented internships, as well as advertise professional development opportunities for undergraduates. Scholarships & Travel Funding Opportunities

Travel Funding: Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship and Critical Need Award

The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program offers grants for U.S. citizen undergraduate students of limited financial means to pursue academic studies or credit-bearing, career-oriented internships abroad.

Over 2,800 scholarships of up to $5,000 will be awarded this academic year for U.S. citizen undergraduates to study or intern abroad. Award amounts will vary depending on the length of study and student need.

Applicants who are studying a critical need language while abroad in a country in which the language is predominantly spoken will automatically be considered for the Critical Need Language Award, for a total award of $8,000. Please note that this award is competitive and offered to a limited number of students each year. During the 2015-2016 academic year, 70 Critical Need Language Awards were offered.

Scholarship: College Scholarships for Students of Hispanic Heritage

Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF)/General College Scholarships are designed to assist students of Hispanic heritage obtain a college degree. Scholarships are available on a competitive basis, including for graduate students. Applicants must be of Hispanic heritage. All graduate fields are accepted.

Apply directly to the sponsor by March 30. See the grant announcement for a complete list of materials to be submitted with the application.

Open Date: January 1
Deadline: March 30

Award Amount: $500-$5,000
