How to Apply

The Christine Williams Prize was founded in May 2026 in honor of Professor Emeritus Christine Williams, a longtime professor of Sociology at The University of Texas at Austin. Following Dr. William's retirement, a fund was established to honor Dr. Williams' many contributions to the Department and to the discipline, and to encourage the research of graduate students. The Christine Williams Prize will be awarded to the UT Austin Sociology graduate student with the best paper in the sociological study of gender. Awards will be made annually subject to funding availability.

Eligibility: Entrants must be currently enrolled Sociology graduate students at UT Austin.

Submission Requirements: Submissions must be on a topic related to sociological study of gender. All methodological approaches will be considered. Submissions may be in the form of unpublished papers. The jury will also consider submissions of papers published in the previous year. The paper may be co-authored by a faculty member if the student is the primary author. Submission instructions will be announced to students each year.

Award: $500.

Jury: The jury will consist of faculty members and will be announced prior to the deadline.
