Norval Glenn Prize Winner Announced
Shannon Malone

Please join us in congratulating Shannon Malone, winner of the 2018 Norval Glenn Prize.
Her paper "Gendering the Police Talk: Black Girls, Black Boys, and Making It Home" was selected by a faculty committee consisting of Shannon Cavanagh (chair), Gloria Gonzalez-Lopez and Mark Hayward.
Congratulations also to Rachel Donnelly for her paper "Can Spouses Buffer the Impact of Discrimination on Depressive Symptoms? A Comparison of Same-sex and Different-sex Marriages," which received an honorable mention.

There was high agreement among the committee that all the entries were very strong, and the department should be proud of the breadth and depth of work done by its students.
The winner of the Norval Glenn Prize will receive a cash award, and the winner's name will be engraved on a plaque in the Sociology Department.

The Norval Glenn Prize was established in 2011 to honor the memory of Professor Norval Glenn, a distinguished member of the Sociology Department for many years. The Norval Glenn Prize is awarded each year to recognize The University of Texas at Austin graduate student with the best paper in the area of family sociology.
