Race and Ethnicity Group
The Race and Ethnicity Group (R&E) began in 2007 as an intellectual space for Sociology students and faculty to share ideas and work that critically reflect on the roles that race and ethnicity play in society, the media, and the academic institution. It is led by Sociology professors Gloria Gonzalez-Lopez and Nestor Rodriguez.
Members are often interested in the intersection of multiple social positions, and therefore the topics explored expand beyond race and ethnicity into wider questions of power, identity and politics. Monthly meetings throughout the academic year include guest lectures by visiting scholars, writing workshops for graduate students, and thematic discussions germane to recent political events related to race and ethnicity.
