Jacob K. Javits Fellowship

The program provides financial assistance to students who have demonstrated (1) superior ability and achievement; (2) exceptional promise; and (3) financial need to undertake graduate study leading to a doctoral degree or Master of Fine Arts (MFA). The Department of Education awards fellowships in selected fields of study of the arts, humanities and social sciences.

Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad (DDRA) Fellowship Program

The Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad Fellowship Program provides opportunities to doctoral candidates to engage in full-time dissertation research abroad in modern foreign languages and area studies. The program is designed to contribute to the development and improvement of the study of modern foreign languages and area studies in the United States.

Aggarwal Endowed Presidential Scholarship in Indian Studies for Undergraduates

Administered by the South Asia Institute, the Aggarwal Endowed Presidential Scholarship in Indian Studies was established by the Board of Regents of The University of Texas System on March 11, 2010, for the benefit of the College of Liberal Arts. Gift funds were provided by J.K. Aggarwal, Ph.D. of Austin, TX and Shanti J. Aggarwal, Ph.D. of Austin, TX. More information on how to apply is available online.

Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Scholarship for Undergradautes

An annual scholarship of $500 is awarded to undergraduate students at The University of Texas at Austin based on academic excellence and dedication to the study of India. To be eligible, a student must have taken a minimum of nine semester credit hours in courses relating directly to India and/or a minimum of two semesters of an Indian language. Students must also submit the application with an informal transcript of their undergraduate work and two letters of recommendation from professors who are familiar with the applicant’s work in the area of Indian Studies. 

Scholarship in Dravidian Studies

The South Asia Institute awards scholarships to graduate students and undergraduate seniors who are pursuing Dravidian Studies. Awards may be given to students from any department in the College of Liberal Arts who focus primarily on a Dravidian language or languages or some aspect of Dravidian-based culture. Funds are awarded on the recommendation of faculty who teach Dravidian languages or cultures.
