New Series of Radio Interviews on Afro-Bolivian Language and Culture
.
Today marks the beginning of a series of radio interviews on Afro-Bolivian language and culture!

Alejandro Gutiérrez (from https://afrodescendant.wordpress.com/) and Sandro Sessarego have been working on this project for some time now, and today have broadcasted the first episode of this series as part of a radio program called “Somos afrobolivianos”. This project has two main goals: 1) adding fuel to the debate on the linguistic and political status of Afro-Bolivian Spanish; 2) spreading awareness of this contact language in Bolivia and abroad.

The episode we have broadcasted today is called “La vida de antes”. It can be downloaded here:

This episode is primarily based on sociolinguistic interviews Sandro had in 2008 with an elder member of the Afro-Bolivian community, Mr. Manuel Barra. Such interviews are part of a digitalized corpus, which comes with the book “Sessarego, S. (2011). Introducción al Idioma Afroboliviano: Una Conversación con el Awicho Manuel Barra (Plural Editores, 2011)”: https://sites.google.com/site/sandrosessarego1/books
