Would you like to speak Spanish in the community? Do you like to help others? In Spanish 327W + EL (Ethics and Leadership flag), you can do both, and become more familiar with Austin’s Spanish-speaking community, while completing a course in advanced grammar and composition. Students volunteer 2 hours a week in schools, clinics, and other sites, then write compositions based on their experiences in the community.

The course is designed to offer interesting opportunities for fully bilingual students as well as those who are developing their language skills. For more information about this course and community service opportunities, see Lia Haisley or Sarah Singer in Benedict 2.108 or contact Dr. Jae Johnson at jane.span@gmail.com.

Past student comments

"This course has been very enriching for me because it encompasses not only the teaching of language but also ethics, leadership, and helping others."

"My experience at Becker has been phenomenal. I look forward to going each week. It’s a great opportunity to practice my Spanish in a setting that isn’t intimidating."

"This class is definitely worth it. I speak Spanish, so using the language in my volunteer site was not hard, but I also learned a lot about communicating more clearly with others."
