Stacie Maureen Sowell Endowed Presidential Scholarship

Description: This endowment honors Ms. Stacie Maureen Sowell of Austin, Texas, a 1995 graduate of the College of Liberal Arts, and was put in place to benefit upper-division undergraduate students who are pursuing a degree in Spanish and who demonstrate financial need.

Requirements: Applicants must be upper-division undergraduates majoring in Spanish with a minimum Spanish GPA of 3.25 and demonstrate financial need.

Expected award amount: $2,500

Sutherland-Meier Excellence Fund

Description: Awards from this fund support undergraduate students who are majoring in Spanish and participating in a study abroad program in Spain. Funds may support travel, visa , and passport costs, and related expenses. At this time, funds cannot be used for tuition or academic fees.

Requirements: Applicants must be undergraduate Spanish majors. Preference is given to first-generation college students and to students with a minimum UT GPA of 3.00.

Carrie Lee Kennedy Fellowship

Description: The Carrie Lee Kennedy Fellowship, established at the University of Texas in 1991, is made possible through the generosity of the late Professor Ruth Kennedy. It provides support to student-scholars working in Professor Kennedy’s area of specialization, Golden Age / Early Modern Spanish literature and culture.

Requirements: Applicants must be Spanish majors who demonstrate exceptional academic ability and are studying Golden Age/Early Modern Spanish literature and culture.
