Carlos Bowles

Carlos Eric Bowles has worked in higher education for 21 years. He currently serves as director for UTeach-Liberal Arts and the Rapoport Service Scholarship Program. Carlos also serves as assistant professor of instruction teaching courses on leadership, civic engagement, and ethics at The University of Texas at Austin. His recognitions include the Texas Exes Alumni James Vick Award for Academic Advising, the Liberal Arts Council for Outstanding Advisor, and a National Academic Advising Association 2013 Outstanding Institution Advising Program Merit Award. Carlos most recently served his community as vice president of programs with the Pflugerville Education Foundation. Carlos holds a bachelor’s degree in English literature from UTSA, a master’s degree in higher education administration from The University of Texas at Austin and is ABD in educational psychology at The University of Texas at Austin with research interests including phenomenology, motivation, and cultural aspects of learning. Carlos spends his free time with his wife and kids and his favorite pastime is playing music.

Kaitlyn Crawford

Kaitlyn Crawford joined the UTeach-Liberal Arts team in 2022. Since studying English and American Studies at The University of Texas at Austin, she’s spent years encouraging a love of learning in others. She’s been a teacher, bookseller and event planner, working with organizations like San Antonio Book Festival, BookPeople, and Half Price Books. With certifications in secondary language arts and English as a second language, she was most recently a middle school teacher in Round Rock ISD. She’s excited to celebrate and support UT students as they begin their teaching journey.

Marissa Blakely

Marissa Blakely joined the UTeach-Liberal Arts program in Fall 2023. Since completing her B.S. in Communication and B.S.B.A. in Marketing at Western Carolina University, she has worked in higher education as a communications assistant, collaborating with students and staff to promote student-athletes. While pursuing her Master of Business Administration at High Point University, she served as a graduate assistant in the Office of Sorority and Fraternity Life within Student Affairs. She is passionate about contributing to students’ growth and development and supporting them in becoming inspiring professionals. In her free time, she enjoys traveling the world and spending time with her family.

Avery Baldwin

Senior Academic Advisor

Avery Baldwin began their journey at UT Austin in 2017 as an undergraduate student. They graduated in 2020 with a B.A. in English and a minor in Women and Gender Studies. Avery began advising in the Economics department as an Associate Academic Advisor in 2022 and transitioned to their current role as the Senior Academic Advisor for UTeach-Liberal Arts in April 2025. During their time in the Economics department, Avery supported over 2,700 students, co-coordinated the Economics Peer Mentor Program (EPMP), conducted registration and orientation advising, and led First-Year Interest Groups (FIGs). They also facilitated orientation for exchange students and coordinated the Social and Behavioral Sciences minor.

Avery is an active member of the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) and presented at the Regions 3 and 7 Conference in March 2025. They served as an advisor-mentor in the Liberal Arts Mentorship Academy (LAMA), a pilot mentorship program in the College of Liberal Arts during the 2024–2025 academic year. They are also a member of the Academic Counselors Association (ACA) and the Disabled Faculty and Staff Association (DFSA). When advising, Avery draws from a place of care, deeply informed by their own undergraduate experience. They credit their former advisors with connecting them to life-changing university resources and strive to offer that same support to their students. Avery’s advising philosophy is rooted in authenticity and vulnerability, and they aim to create spaces where students feel seen, safe, and empowered. They are a firm believer in the power of public education and are deeply inspired to support and empower the next generation of educators. Outside of work, Avery enjoys writing, going on adventures with friends, and reading manhwa!

Isabella Coates

Isabella Coates joined the UTeach-Liberal Arts team in Fall 2024 as a freshman majoring in Communication and Leadership. Throughout high school, she actively participated in community service and discovered her passion for working with children. In addition to her volunteer work, Isabella gained valuable experience in graphic design and event planning, which she thoroughly enjoys. She’s excited to apply her skills and support UT students as they embark on their teaching journeys.
