Video Block
The Video component supports embedded video from YouTube, Vimeo, Box and other mp4 videos. The block also includes an optional headline above the video player and optional descriptive text below the video player.
Best Practices
- You only need to use the video ID, not the entire share link. In this YouTube example, https://youtu.be/ziPPqLZkl80, you would only insert ziPPqLZkl80 into the Video ID field.
Settings
- Headline: show/hide video block headline (edit text by double-clicking in block)
- Description: show/hide video description (edit text by double-clicking in block)
Video
- Provider: HMTL5 Source (.mp4), YouTube, YoutTube (no cookie), Vimeo, UT Box
- Video ID: the ID of the video; see above for example
- Autoplay: check to autoplay on load (default: not checked)
- Loop: check to loop video after play (default: not checked)
- Controls: show play, ff, rewind, and volume controls (default: checked)
- Related: show related videos, if available, after play (default: checked)
- Modest: reduce number of controls, if available (default: unchecked)
This component has multiple elements. Be sure to select the element you want to apply settings to. Selected elements are indicated by the blue highlight. Click the up arrow to select element layer above.

Additional Instructions for using UT Box
We always suggest using a department Box instead of a personal one for uploading videos and documents. Once you’ve uploaded the video to Box click the Share icon to setup sharing for the video. Make sure the options are set to ‘People with the link’ and ‘Can view only’ or ‘Can view or download.’ You will also want to click on Link Settings and uncheck the box in the Link Expiration section.
Due to recent changes in Box, we suggest that you do not use the shared link and instead use the "custom, non-prvate URL" option in Box. To use the option, follow these steps:
- click on 'Link Settings' in the Share dialog
- turn on the "Publish content broadly with a custom, non-private URL" option
- enter a custom name for the video in the field
- copy the custom URL (should be https://utexas.box.com/v/custom-video-name)
- click Save to exit the Share dialog
Once you have the custom URL, select HMTL5 Source as the Provider in the Video block settings and paste the URL in the Source field.
Because of how Box hosts videos you will not see a preview or poster image of the video in the Pages canvas but when you preview or publish the page the video will load correctly.
