Gilbert Teaching Award 

The Lucia, John, and Melissa Gilbert Teaching Excellence Award honors faculty members with an outstanding record of undergraduate and/or graduate teaching in Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies courses.

One award is given each year, alternating between untenured faculty members and tenured faculty members. This award includes a $1000 cash honorarium and is presented to the recipient at the Department of Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies Annual Spring Awards Reception April 29th 2025, 3:30pm-5pm in RLP 1.302E. 

The Department of Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies will accept names of untenured faculty members (e.g., assistant professors, including tenure-track or professional track, and/or lecturers)  from the WGSS Faculty until March 1, 2025. Self-nominations are permitted. The Department will then contact the individuals to inform them that they have been nominated. 


Nominees must:
- Be untenured in rank (assistant professors of practice, instruction or tenure-track, or lecturer);
- Hold regular, on-going faculty positions at UT Austin;
- Actively engage in the instruction of undergraduate and graduate students in Women’s, Gender and  Sexuality Studies courses;
- Have completed at least their third year of teaching at UT;
- Demonstrate active involvement in Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies.

All eligible nominees will receive application instructions via email. Supporting materials, including recommendation letters, are due Thursday April, 10th 2025 at 5pm.
