He specializes in combining multiple data sources—including birth records, medical insurance claims, and social services data—to investigate maternal, infant, and child health outcomes. His substantive research encompasses three topics: (1) the consequences of pre- and early-life health on children’s development; (2) the effectiveness of prenatal care interventions for improving pregnancy outcomes; and (3) health-related spillover effects between siblings. Additionally, he builds graphical causal models for identifying treatment effects in family networks. Mallinson holds a PhD in Population Health Sciences from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
