John L. Warfield Center for African and African American Studies
The John L. Warfield Center for African and African American Studies (WCAAAS), located in the Gordon-White Building at the University of Texas at Austin, is the arts, culture, and programming unit of the Black Studies Collective. Since its inception in June 1969, the Warfield Center has been a focal point for campus and community life around the cultural, sociopolitical, artistic, economic, and historical experiences of Africans and their descendants.

- WCAAAS was re-named in 2008 to honor the legacy of Dr. John L. Warfield, UT Professor and former Director of the Center for African and African-American Studies.
- We sponsor scholarship and cultural production that draw on the expertise of the Black Studies Collective's interdisciplinary faculty affiliates.
- WCAAAS encourages creative work that seeks to foster social justice for people of African descent around the world.
