Recruiting
Liberal Arts Career Services provides these guidelines to help make the recruiting process smooth for both our students in UT Austin's College of Liberal Arts, and employers who are enthusiastic about recruiting them. With this in mind, we abide by the National Association of Colleges and Employers' (NACE) Principles for Ethical Professional Practice. Offer Guidelines
All offers should be in writing, whether a hard copy or electronic version. The date on the offer letter determines the timeline for accepting.
- Reasonable Offer Deadlines
Liberal Arts Career Services strongly recommends against exploding offers and suggest that offers remain open for a minimum of two weeks in order to provide the student with the time needed to consider the offer. Please see NACE's Reasonable Offer Deadlines Guidelines for definitions and more reasonable offer suggestions.
- Offer Timelines
We currently recommend the following for offers extended to students in the College of Liberal Arts:
Internship and full-time offers made during the Summer & Fall semesters:
Offers should stay open until October 31 or for two weeks, whichever is longer.
Internship and Full-time Offers made during the Spring semester
Offers should stay open until April 1 or for two weeks, whichever is longer.
Additionally, we recommend not extending an offer beyond 12 months between the date of the offer and the start date of employment.
- Internship Course Credit Timelines
If considering requiring or offering credit for internships, employers should be aware of our academic calendar, which may shorten the time students have to receive credit for an internship during a particular term.
