* University Fellowship stipends are subject to federal income tax, but there is no state income tax in Texas. Since the University of Texas will not withhold federal income tax from fellowship stipends, Fellows must make estimated tax payments. If the student is an international student and his/her country does not have a tax treaty with the United States, 14% for Federal income tax will be withheld from the fellowship stipend checks.

**International graduate students may also be responsible for paying a few fees on their tuition bill that originate from Texas Global such as a Health Insurance Admin fee plus Evac and Repatriation fee.

More information about Teaching Assistant and Assistant Instructor positions can be found here.

All students are eligible to receive up to $6,000 over 6 years* to attend and present work at academic conferences. In addition, each student is eligible for $4,000 in Enrichment Activity Funding.

To be eligible for Summer Research Support Scholarships, students work with their mentors to develop study or research proposals. These proposals are submitted in early spring for approval by the Graduate Admissions and Financial Aid Committee (GAFA). The completed projects are reviewed in the fall.

Graduate students in French are supported by scholarships funded by a generous bequest from Mrs. Julia Emerson Walther. To learn more about Mrs. Walther, please visit our Endowment page.
