Middle Eastern Studies (MA)
Applicants may enter the program at any level in Arabic, Hebrew, Persian or Turkish. Most applicants will have at minimum one year of college-level instruction if not much more.

Admissions Language Requirements for Ph.D.
As doctoral scholarship requires a high degree of language proficiency, students normally complete a Master of Arts in the discipline or area of concentration before acceptance into the Ph.D. program.*

Hebrew Bible/Ancient Near East*
1) Three years of Biblical Hebrew (or equivalent) and
2) Knowledge of Biblical Aramaic or experience with a second Semitic language

Middle Eastern History
Arabic and Persian applicants must demonstrate proficiency at least at the Advanced-Low level. Modern Hebrew applicants must be at the Intermediate-High level for the master's program and Advanced-Low for the doctoral program.
