The MA in Middle Eastern Studies is an interdisciplinary academic degree designed to broaden and deepen the student’s knowledge of the languages and cultures of the Middle East. MA students are required to attain proficiency in one Middle Eastern language and encouraged to study a second Middle Eastern language for at least two semesters. Applicants may enter the program at any level in Arabic, Hebrew, Persian or Turkish. Most applicants will have at minimum one year of college-level instruction if not much more.

Native or Heritage speakers of a Middle Eastern language may not use their native tongue to meet the Master's language requirement. They must complete the language requirement by pursuing a non-native Middle Eastern language, potentially from the beginner level if the applicant does not already possess a strong background in this second language.
