Cognition, Brain, and Behavior

The Cognition, Brain, and Behavior program is designed to provide students with rigorous training in the concepts and methods of cognitive neuroscience. We seek to understand the underlying neural basis of human behavior by taking a broad perspective, examining both normal and abnormal populations across the lifespan from early childhood through old age. Faculty research interests cut across nearly all areas of cognitive neuroscience, including perception, learning and memory, language, executive function, decision making, categorization, emotion, and social function.

The area is also a hub for translational research, including studies of development and aging, psychiatric disorders, neurodegenerative disorders, brain injury, and obesity.  Methods available for students in the area including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), human electrophysiology (EEG/ERP), magnetoencephalography (MEG), transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), genetics/epigenetics, lesion studies, and computational modeling.

Students in this area have the chance to take coursework that spans a broad set of disciplines including psychology, neuroscience, computer science, statistics, linguistics, and communication sciences. In addition, students can enroll in the Psychology Department’s Neuroimaging Track, which provides additional coursework in neuroimaging methodology.
