Registration FAQ
Please note that questions regarding Rhetoric & Writing course enrollment should be directed to rhetoric@austin.utexas.edu
- I need to register for a Rhetoric & Writing (RHE) course, but it's closed/waitlisted. What should I do?
Get on the waitlist if there is one. Watch the course schedule to see if the course becomes open. For further assistance, please contact the Department of Rhetoric & Writing at rhetoric@austin.utexas.edu.
- I need a class to graduate, but it is closed. What should I do?
We're going to work with any student to make sure graduation needs are met. Please reach out to the department offering the class for assistance. If it is a RHE class, email rhetoric@austin.utexas.edu. If we are unable to reply right away and/or if your situation is urgent, please also feel free to contact the Student Success Help Desk.
- I missed the Q-drop deadline, but I still want to drop my class. What can I do?
Once during a student’s college career, they may use a One-Time-Exception (OTE) Q-drop to drop one class (or withdraw from all classes) by the last class day.
Learn more about the OTE Q-drop here.

- When do I register?
You can find your personal registration times on your Registration Information Sheet.
- How do I schedule an academic advising appointment?
Rhetoric & Writing majors should schedule appointments through Bookings: David's Bookings Page
- What does it mean when a course is “open; reserved?”
Some departments reserve seats for specific majors, minors, first-year students, or other populations. If you try to register for an “open; reserved” class and the system does not let you register, try another class. Some reservations may be lifted at the end of the registration period or during add/drop.
- Where can I request a Pass/Fail or Q-drop? What is the deadline?
If you want to change a future class to Pass/Fail, you can do so in the registration system. If you want to request a change to a current class (Pass/Fail or Q-drop), visit the Liberal Arts Student Division chat.
Learn more about Pass/Fail here.
Pass/Fail and Q-drop deadline: November 20 at 5:00 p.m. (for Fall 2024)
