Below are compiled lists and links to various funding opportunities for REE majors and those studying Slavic and Eurasian languages. However, this is not an exhaustive list, so make sure to visit the Office of Financial Aid’s site for more opportunities.
Departmental Funding Opportunities
Academic Year Foreign Language & Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships
FLAS AY Fellowships are awarded to students studying a language with an approved Russian, East European or Eurasian Studies focus. The Fellowship is interdisciplinary and open to ANY student at UT. The Fellowship provides a nine-month stipend of $5,000 total for undergraduates plus tuition up to $10,000 per academic year for undergraduates.

Summer FLAS Fellowships are awarded to students studying a language with an approved Russian, East European or Eurasian Studies focus. The Fellowship is interdisciplinary and open to ANY student at UT for language study at an approved university or institute in the U.S. or abroad. The summer FLAS Fellowship provides a stipend of $2,500 plus tuition and course-related fees up to $5,000!

This award is available to students in ANY major, who are interested in professional development in the realm of Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies. Activities MUST be somehow related to the CREEES region. Awards are meant to help cover travel costs associated with competitive internships, job interviews, research/fieldwork, presenting at academic conferences, or other activities geared towards professional development. Up to $1,000 per student will be awarded to cover international travel costs or $500 per student for domestic travel costs.

This competitive scholarship, ranging from $500-2,000, is to be used during summer or the academic year for the study of Russian language and culture, professional development or research related to Russia or the former Soviet Union in ANY field. These funds must be used to cover travel, housing, tuition or other related costs while abroad, or for relevant domestic travel.

A competitive scholarship, the Polish Studies Endowment ranges from $500–2,000, and is to be used for the study of Polish language and culture, or research related to Poland in ANY field during summer or the academic year. These funds must be used to cover travel, housing, tuition or other related costs while in Poland.

University-Wide Funding
The University of Texas at Austin offers a wide range of awards for undergraduates: the University Co-op / George H. Mitchell Student Awards for Academic Excellence and the Roy Crane Award in the Arts. Sponsorship of these awards is part of the overall mission to encourage and promote excellence in undergraduate education. In addition to these scholarships, there are additional University programs and awards available to students.

The College of Liberal Arts has many scholarship and fellowships available to students in COLA. Most of these endowed scholarships are merit based and competitive. The Beinecke Scholarship Program seeks to encourage and enable highly motivated students to pursue opportunities available to them and to be courageous in the selection of a graduate course of study in the arts, humanities and social sciences. Each scholar receives $4,000 immediately prior to entering graduate school and an additional $30,000 while attending graduate school. There are no geographic restrictions on the use of the scholarship, and recipients are allowed to supplement the award with other scholarships, assistantships and research grants.

HSF Scholarships are designed to assist students of Hispanic heritage obtain a college degree, and are available, on a competitive basis, to: high school seniors, undergraduate students, community college students transferring to four year universities, and graduate students. Awards are based on merit; amounts range from $500 to $5,000, based on relative need, among the Scholars selected.
Learn MoreBenjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship and Critical Need Award
The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program offers grants for U.S. citizen undergraduate students of limited financial means to pursue academic studies or credit-bearing, career-oriented internships abroad. Over 2,900 scholarships of up to $5,000 will be awarded this academic year for U.S. citizen undergraduates to study or intern abroad. Award amounts will vary depending on the length of study and student need. Applicants who are studying a critical need language while abroad in a country in which the language is predominantly spoken will automatically be considered for the Critical Need Language Award, for a total award of $8,000. Please note that this award is competitive and offered to a limited number of students each year.
