Patrick Sheehan is a PhD student in the department of Sociology at the University of Texas at Austin where he is a fellow in the Urban Ethnography Lab. He holds a BA from the University of California, Santa Barbara. His research focuses on work in the new economy.
Patrick's dissertation project examines how different institutional contexts shape work and organization in tech start-ups. He is currently conducting interviews with tech founders and workers in Silicon Valley and Berlin and is generously funded by the University of Texas Graduate Continuing Fellowship during the 2021-2022 academic year. During the summer of 2023, he is a Visiting Research in the Economic Sociology research group at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Society in Cologne, Germany.

His academic research has been published in the American Journal of Sociology and Work & OccupationsHe also regularly writes for public outlets such as Jacobin Magazine, In These Times, and Public Seminar.
