Rachel’s research focuses on health within the family context with an emphasis on 1) the effect of intergenerational social conditions on health across the life course, 2) the transmission of health and health behaviors in intimate relationships, and 3) gender variations in health and health-related processes. Her thesis explores how the link between daily stress and marital strain depends on exposure to stress in childhood and how this process varies for men and women in same-sex and different-sex marriages.

Rachel is a doctoral student in the department of Sociology and an NICHD graduate student trainee in the Population Research Center. She earned her B.A. and M.A. in Sociology at The University of Texas at Austin.
