ADA-accessible parking is also available.  To access these spots, please drive past the meadow and approach the theater barn.  The ADA parking spots are located near the restrooms.  Our staff are on hand if you need help locating the spots.

Please check out our Accessibility page to learn more about accessibility at Shakespeare at Winedale.

Can I bring a picnic?

Absolutely!  We're happy to welcome you to bring food and drinks to the property and into the barn.  There are shaded picnic tables available for your use next to the barn.  Please make sure you clean up any mess and unwrap anything noisy before the performance begins.

Does Shakespeare at Winedale sell refreshments?

Unfortunately, we don't sell food or beverages.  However, you're more than welcome to bring your own!  We provide free water and lemonade at intermission.

What about the heat?

The theater barn is open to the outside, and we all know a little something about Texas heat!  We have air conditioning and giant fans going during the performances which keep the audience pretty cool, but you are welcome to bring your own personal fan (as long as it does not make much noise).

Should I bring my own chair?

No, chairs are provided for the audience, and each chair has a cushion.  Some people find it beneficial to bring an additional pillow to sit on.

How do seating reservations work?

The barn will open for seating 1 hour prior to each performance. In so far as possible, preferential, reserved seating will be given to donors of this year's program; other seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Reserved seats must be occupied 10 minutes before the performance.

If you need specific accessibility accommodations with your seating, we are more than happy to help!  Please email us at shakespeare@austin.utexas.edu with questions or requests.

What can I do before the performance begins?

Explore the grounds!  Before the performance begins, you can explore the Winedale Historical Center grounds and check out the painted cows created by past Shakespeare at Winedale classes!  There's a 10-minute nature walk through some beautiful meadows that begins right next to the theater barn.

Read up on the performance!  We'll have printed programs and synopses at the Box Office, which you can peruse before the performance to learn more about the plays and performers.

Learn about Shakespeare at Winedale History!  Directly to your left and right as you enter the barn, you will discover poster boards with historical photographs and information about the program.

Buy Shakespeare at Winedale merchandise!  Stock up on the latest shirts, tote bags, and bandanas at the Box Office.

What can I expect during the performance?

Shakespeare at Winedale performances are exciting, immersive experiences.  The performers are university students from across the country, who have gathered to study and perform Shakespeare's classic plays.  The theater barn is an intimate performance space: expect actors to be entering through the aisles!  Performance times vary depending on the length of the play.  Please reach out to us via email if you have questions about content warnings, age appropriateness, or the length of a specific performance.

Will there be an intermission?

Yes!  There will be a 10 minute intermission.  During this time, cold water and lemonade will be available for free at the Box Office.  There will also be merchandise available for purchase using cash or card.  You can also use intermission to go to the restroom, which are located right beside the theater barn.

What should I expect after the performance?

At Winedale, we don't have a curtain call.  Instead, the performers will gather out by the Box Office in a circle and close out the performance together by saying "Curtain!"  Then you will be able to say hello to the performers!

After the evening performances, the performers will hand out cheese and crackers.
