Breakthrough interns work with the staff to provide the support, advocacy, and programming students need to be successful on the path to college. 
Breakthrough provides a path from middle school to college for students who will become first-generation college graduates. Founded in 2002, Breakthrough Austin annually admits 220 sixth graders and makes a twelve-year commitment to their success in school. The program includes summer sessions at the University of Texas, school year support and advocacy, and comprehensive college counseling. We currently serve more than 900 students with six alumni classes enrolled in college. 

Duties and Responsibilities Include: 
-- Tutoring individual or small groups of students at the Breakthrough office or at middle and high school campuses in Austin.  
– Advising, coaching, and mentoring students on how to be successful at school 
-- Communicating with students and their families about the students’ progress and about upcoming Breakthrough events 
-- Assisting in the planning, preparation, and running of Breakthrough events and workshops 
-- Coordinating and completing clerical tasks (word processing, filing, organizing materials, etc.) 
-- Entering information into a database and preparing reports 
-- Conducting yourself in a professional and friendly manner

Desired Qualities: 
Breakthrough seeks committed individuals who have experience and enjoy working with adolescents who will be first-generation college graduates. Interns must exhibit high personal standards, professional maturity and flexibility, strong organizational skills, and discipline to fulfill commitments. It is helpful if coaches have a flexible schedule and are able to transport themselves to students' campuses. Breakthrough experience or experience working with adolescents preferred. Ability to speak Spanish preferred, but not required. 

Days and Times: Flexible schedule; interns must agree upon a weekly schedule with your supervisor.
