Spring 2014 Site Review

Position: Support Engineering Co-Op
Student: Economics Sophomore

A typical day for me at the office starts out with me arriving in the morning and check emails. Since we often have customers in different time zones, I get many emails overnight and need to take some time to catch up. Depending on the day, I may also join a morning conference call, which reviews important new features and fixed bugs with our products. This meeting is also led from our European teams, so it occurs in the morning.

Later on, as more of my coworkers reach the office, there may be some in person meetings to attend. These meetings are usually centered on specific customers. We try to discuss new and existing issues, and figure out which ones can be resolved. Sometimes, a group of us will work together to think through an issue. We can brainstorm some ideas as a group, and then split up to test out different theories and try to solve them.

At this point, I usually go through and try to look at my current list of customer tickets, and work through them. I test different fixes in my own environment, and when I find a suitable solution, I write up a document so that the customer in question can follow the exact steps necessary to apply the fix. A great part of my work involves writing clear and concise instructions to ensure that installations go smoothly.

If it is a Monday or Wednesday, I will be headed to class after work. On Friday however, I would work a full day. Friday afternoons are often fun filled at the office, because we sometimes have social events going on. This usually involves some sort of food, as well as socializing with other employees. It has been a great way to meet other people in different divisions within the company.
