The Center for Middle Eastern Studies, established in 1960, is a National Resource Center (NRC) funded by a Title VI grant awarded by the US Department of Education. The Center provides a supportive environment for research and teaching on the Middle East throughout the University, carried out by 150 scholars with faculty appointments in 22 departments. The Center offers an interdisciplinary MA program in Middle Eastern Studies; its faculty affiliates teach 300 courses every year on Middle Eastern languages and area studies. The stature of its faculty and the quality of its events, educational outreach, and publication program have brought the Center national and international recognition in the field of Middle Eastern Studies.
