Dr. Paul and Mary Ho

The Paul and Mary Ho Distinguished Lecture in China Studies aims to extend and deepen understanding of China in the University community and among the general public. The lecture was endowed in 2006 by University of Texas faculty members Dr. Paul Ho and Mrs. Mary Ho. The lecture frequently explores China's historical, cultural, or social connection to the Institute's current theme. The China Studies faculty works with the Institute to identify prominent and exciting lecturers in the field.

Dr. Paul S. Ho holds a Cockrell Family Regents Chair in Materials Science and Engineering and is the Director of the Laboratory for Interconnect and Packaging at the University of Texas. He received his Ph.D. in Physics from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1966, and he joined the UT faculty in 1991. Mrs. Mary Ho is a Chinese language specialist and former lecturer in the Department of Asian Studies.

Past lecturers include Judith FarquharEvan OsnosEugenia Lean, Jeffrey Wasserstrom, Lisa Rofel, Jing Wang, Andrew Nathan, Eric Mueggler, and Gail Hershatter. Topics have ranged from gender and labor, imperialism and borderlands to human rights, social media, and political economy.
