Please join us for a talk, exhibition, and workshop by pollera designer Qarla Quispe from Lima, Peru, entitled "Empollerada & Empoderada.”

The “pollera” is a traditional cultural artifact valued as a symbol of identity across the Andes. Qarla’s work reimages traditional techniques and styles of pollera-making to position polleras as symbols of popular art in urban spaces. The talk will take place on Thursday, December 7 at 4 pm at the Benson Conference Room (SRH) 1.208, and will be followed by a wood engraving workshop, “Estampa tu diseño,” at 5 pm. During the workshop, attendees will carve their own stamps and use artisanal printing techniques to reproduce their designs.
