Application Process for Graduate Students

The Engaged Scholar Initiative has supported two cohorts of approximately seven graduate students each. Cohort 1 participants began in Summer 2017. Cohort 2 participants began in Summer 2018. We are currently not recruiting a new graduate student cohort.

Application Process for Undergraduate Students

The Engaged Scholar Initiative has supported five cohorts of undergraduate students: Cohort 1 in 2018-19; Cohort 2 in 2019-20; Cohort 3 in 2020-21; Cohort 4 in 2021-22; Cohort 5 in 2022-23.

Application Requirements

Applicants are required to have:

• Minimum G.P.A. of 3.2
• Minimum of Junior or Senior class standing by Fall 2023

Applicants must submit the following items:

• Program Application Form
• Application Essay (limit: 2 pages)
• Sample Paper: scholarly essay written for a class at The University of Texas at Austin
• Resume or Curriculum Vitae (limit: 1 page)
• The name of a faculty member who will write a recommendation letter
