Dr. Jerry Franks Endowed Scholarship

Apply for this scholarship using the "COLA Common Scholarship Application".  The common application opens at the beginning of each spring semester in the Longhorn Awards & Student Scholarship Opportunities (LASSO) system.  To access the COLA Common Scholarship Application, go to LASSO and click on "Student Log In"

Scholarship for Liberal Arts majors who attended Midland College in Midland, Texas; second preference shall be given to students who graduated from a high school in Midland County, Texas. 

Application Instructions 

  • Apply via the COLA Common Scholarship Application in the LASSO portal
  • If eligible to apply, the application will appear in your LASSO account
  • Application opens January 12, 2026 at 12:00 a.m. and closes March 1, 2026 at 11:59 p.m.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Currently enrolled Liberal Arts undergraduate at The University of Texas at Austin
  • Applicants must have attended Midland College or a high school in Midland County, TX.
  • Minimum in-residence UT GPA of 3.25
  • Recipient must demonstrate academic merit and financial need.
  • At least 12 in-residence credit hours completed
  • Students graduating May 2026 are not eligible to apply.

Additional Information

  • Scholarship funds are disbursed in the fall and spring of the following academic year
  • Recipients must maintain full-time enrollment during both semesters of the award year
