Commencement FAQ's

Q: How do I participate in the Commencement Ceremony?

If you wish to participate in a spring 2024 commencement ceremony, you must submit an approved request to be added to the list of commencement participants and then complete a secondary ceremony rsvp. The mechanism for beginning this process is determined by your graduating semester, review specific instructions here.

Once your application is approved, you will need to complete the ceremony rsvp form through MarchingOrder. This form will be sent to your email on file and where you will approve your information and request your tickets (if needed).

The RSVP form will be open February 26, 2024 - April 12, 2024, the RSVP link will be emailed within 5 business days of your application being approved. All graduates must complete RSVP in order to partcipate.

Q: Which ceremony do I attend?

A: All Liberal Arts students are asked to attend only one of the five ceremonies listed below. If you are in a major that is hosting their own ceremony, this is the ceremony you will attend. All other students will attend the COLA Commencement in the Moody Center on 5/9.

If you have more than one major, you will be placed in a ceremony by your first listed major. If you would like this changed, please reach out to colacommencement@austin.utexas.edu after your graduation application has been approved.

Q: Do I need to wear a cap and gown? If so, where can I buy them?

A: Academic regalia is required for all ceremony participants.  Bachelor regalia may be purchased from the University Co-op. The tassel color for BA and BS graduates in the College of Liberal Arts is white. Bachelor's regalia should be ordered by April 12. Formal invitations to send to family and friends may also be purchased from the University Co-op.

Cords are given out on a departmental/program level. Please reach out to any organization that you have been a part of to see if they pass out cords. The College does not give any additional items out.
