Social Media Savvy: Ana Adorable on her social media job, self-discipline, and her favorite study spots

Ana Adorable's Instagram story is a testament to her productive lifestyle. From trying a new recipe to hiking with her dog Kai, the 22-year-old is happy sharing parts of her day with her online audience. But until her fall semester of sophomore year, social media was but a creative outlet for her.

Adorable lived in both Richardson, TX and Muntinlupa City, Philippines before moving to The Forty Acres, where she began her academic journey studying economics and entrepreneurship. Like most students, she was on the hunt for a part-time job to support herself during her studies. 

"I found a job at a boba place, but I wasn't working the number of hours I wanted," Adorable recalled. "Around the same time, a friend introduced me to the business of digital marketing for hair and skincare products. I'd always loved posting pictures on Instagram, so I decided I'd give it a shot."

Now, Adorable gets paid to share her hair and skincare routines on Instagram, promoting her favorite beauty products in the process. She says that while her job provides her the flexibility to manage her academics and social life, it also requires self-discipline.

"Since I work on my phone, it's easy to get distracted. You have to put in the work and remind yourself not to scroll!"

Adorable attributes much of her success to her uncle, whom she lived with during the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020.

"When I started promoting products on my Instagram, he was my #1 supporter. He's helped me stay positive this entire time."

Adorable also garners a lot of creative inspiration from YouTube content creators. 

"Haley Pham's videos about fashion and traveling have always inspired me," she said. "She was able to find success and support her mom by doing what she loved, and I want to apply a similar work ethic to my career."

Beyond studying and posting in her social media, Adorable enjoys exploring the Austin area.

"Now that I have a dog, I've been hiking around Austin a lot. He always encourages me to get outside and stay active," she shared. "I also like to bring my friends downtown so we can try new restaurants and visit art museums." 

She also enjoys helping her friends plan trips on a budget.

"I helped my friend plan a trip to Colorado by researching flights, creating an itinerary, and keeping track of expenses. I felt like a travel agent," Adorable admitted with a laugh.

During the school year, you can find Adorable working at her favorite study spots on campus.

"I like studying at Rowling Hall, the McCombs Graduate School Building. It's a lot more private compared to other places on campus," she explained. "I also like studying at The Union because they have a lot of comfortable couches, which are great for power naps."

As a third-year economics major, Adorable encourages other students in The College of Liberal Arts to step out of their comfort zone.

"Trying new things can be intimidating. But if you never challenge yourself, you'll never know what you're missing out on. It's much scarier to be complacent than to do something you've never done before."
