Brazil Center

BRASA 2020 Conference

The Brazil Center was founded in 1995 to diversify and expand interdisciplinary studies of Brazil at The University of Texas at Austin and to increase the number of faculty specializing in Brazil. UT Austin boasts one of the strongest and most comprehensive Brazilian studies programs in the United States. Approximately one-quarter of LLILAS-affiliated faculty dedicate all or part of their research and/or instruction to Brazil-related content in diverse disciplines, including African and African Diaspora studies, anthropology, architecture, art history, communications, geography, geosciences, government, history, human ecology, journalism, language and literature, law, public policy, and sociology.

The Brazil Center's mission is to support Brazilian studies across academic disciplines at UT Austin, and to promote collaborative research and exchange between Texas and Brazil. The Brazil Center's goals include:

  • Supporting the Brazil-related teaching, study, and research agendas of students, faculty, and visiting academics at the university
  • Sustaining an interdisciplinary network of Brazilianist scholars at UT
  • Strengthening the university's institutional relations with academic, nonprofit, and government agencies in Brazil

The University of Texas at Austin will be the host to the Brazilian Studies Association's biannual congress, BRASA XV, taking place March 26–28, 2020. Learn more in this news story. Stay informed by visiting BRASA. Questions about your visit to Austin? E-mail BRASA.UTAUSTIN@gmail.com.
