Languages We Teach

Learning a foreign language helps you to understand the world in new ways.  In today's increasingly interrelated world can you really afford not to know a foreign language?

Your ideal choices for study today and your future careers are the "Germanic Languages," the languages of Northern and Central Europe:  Danish, Dutch, German, Norwegian, Swedish, and Yiddish.  Find out why by clicking on the links for videos on each language and what students have said about their experiences!

These languages have historic ties to the state of Texas.  They are also central for today's and tomorrow's careers in energy, high tech, international trade and telecommunications, foreign trade and banking, biomedical and chemical research, aerospace, and international business -- to say nothing of the foreign service, military, and teaching.   German, Dutch, and the Scandinavian languages often top the list of what job recruiters look for.

You can use ANY of these languages to fulfil University language requirements. For more infomation:  FAQs on the Language Requirement.

Beyond learning the languages and satisfying Language requirments,  students can major or minor in German.  These programs offer the kind of broad introduction to Europe's cultures that prepare you well for further study in law, the arts and humanities, and the social sciences, as well.   And you'll also have access to generous scholarships to make these options possible!
