Prof. Zenzi Griffin Awarded Meritorious Poster Submission for 2018 ASHA Convention
Prof. Zenzi Griffin's poster presentation, "Executive Control in Adults Who Do & Do Not Stutter: The Antisaccade Task," was designated a Meritorious Poster Submission for The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) 2018 Convention. The presentation was co-authored by Moody College Communication Sciences & Disorders Profs. Zoi Gkalitsiou and Courtney Byrd. Recognition is for proposals judged to show extraordinary, exceptional, and innovative work. Dr. Griffin's submission is among those that received the highest ratings from reviewers across both submission categories of professional education and research. Dr. Bill Swann Awarded 2018 SPSP Career Contribution Award
Prof. William B Swann has been awarded the Society for Personality and Social Psychology (SPSP) Career Contribution Award for 2018. This is a senior career award that honors a scholar who has made major theoretical and/or empirical contributions to social psychology and/or personality psychology or to bridging these areas together and may recognize recipients who have been under-recognized for their distinguished scholarly contributions across long and productive careers. Dr. David Buss Receives Lifetime Career Award from Human Behavior and Evolution Society
Prof. David Buss received this year's Lifetime Career Awardfor Distinguished Scientific Contribution from the Human Behavior and Evolution Society (HBES), the world’s largest international society of human evolutionary scientists. The Lifetime Career Award is awarded to HBES members who have made distinguished theoretical or empirical contributions to basic research in evolution and human behavior. Read more here> (7/4/2018)
Prof. Sam Gosling Receives "10-Year Test-of-Time Award" from International Conference on Web and Social Media
Prof. Samuel Gosling along with co-authors Sam Gaddis and Simine Vazire received the 10-Year Test-of-Time Award from the International Conference on Web and Social Media for their 2007 paper, “Personality Impressions Based on Facebook Profiles”. This is the inaugural year for the award, which recognizes papers published at the International Conference on Web and Social Media ten (or 11) years ago that feature research still highly relevant to this day. Prof. Zenzi Griffin Elected Fellow of the Association for Psychological Science
Dr. Zenzi M. Griffin was named a Fellow of the Association for Psychological Science (APS) in May 2018 in recognition of her sustained outstanding contributions to the advancement of psycological science. APS Fellows are Association members who have made outstanding, sustained contributions to the science of psychology in research, application, teaching, and/or service. Prof. Chris Beevers Awarded Raymond Dickson Centennial Endowed Teaching Fellowship
Psychology Professor Christopher Beevers has received the UT College of Liberal Art's Dickson Teaching Fellowship, which recognizes exemplary performance and a commitment to teaching. Established in 1989, the fellowship provides a one-year fellowship appointment and a salary supplement for the 2018-19 academic year. Dr. Jacqueline Evans Receives UT President's Associates Teaching Excellence Award
Pyschology lecturer Dr. Jacqueline Evans has been awarded the prestigious President’s Associates Teaching Excellence Award for 2017–18, which recognizes great teaching of undergraduates in the core curriculum. Prof. Cindy Meston Awarded Career Service Award from International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health
Dr. Cindy M Meston received the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health (ISSWSH) Career Service Award this month at the ISSWSH annual conference. She was chosen for the award, which is not necessarily awarded annually, by the ISSWSH president, who has the option each year to give the award to someone they believe has provided outstanding service to the field of women's sexuality at large and to the society. Undergraduate Sophia Birk Receives 2018-2019 Rapoport-King Thesis Scholarship
Psychology undergraduate student Sophia Birk has been awarded the prestigious Rapoport-King Thesis Scholarship for 2018–19 for her thesis titled, “Relationship Between Orexin and Orienting Phenotypes.” Her supervisor was Psychology Professor Hongjoo Lee.
The Rapoport-King Thesis Scholarships honor Audre and Bernard Rapoport and Robert D. King, former Dean of the College of Liberal Arts, and enable the College of Liberal Arts to provide scholarship and research support students writing a thesis in one of the Departmental Honors Programs the year they apply. Undergraduate Research Fellowships (URF) are sponsored by UT's Office of the Vice President for Research and have long been a valuable tool for undergraduate students in all disciplines across campus for developing original research ideas and projects. The Fellowships provide support for scholarly investigative projects conducted by UT Austin undergraduates, and are intended to cover costs associated with academic research projects proposed and written by student applicants and undertaken with the supervision of a University faculty member or lecturer. Graduate Student Hae Yeon Lee Awarded 2018 Dissertation Funding Award from Society for Research in Child Development
Graduate student Hae Yeon Lee was awarded a 2018 Society for Research in Child Development (SRCD) and Student and Early Career Council (SECC) Dissertation Research Funding Award. The award is given for dissertation research proposals that merit special recognition and display the strong potential to contribute to the field of child development. Her research seeks to understand (1) how adolescents come to navigate their social world through the lens of social status and peer regard, and (2) how adolescents’ mindsets and belief systems about the social world might guide these mental processes and ultimately shape important developmental outcomes. Recent Graduate Milla Lubis Awarded $15,000 Randy Diehl Prize in Liberal Arts
The Randy Diehl Prize in Liberal Arts was established by donors to support a graduating College of Liberal Arts (COLA) senior who is committing the year after graduation to service for the greater good. Ms. Lubis will spend the next two years teaching with Teach For America in the Dallas-Ft. Undergrad Ifeoluwa Bada Awarded 2018 Roy Crane Award for Outstanding Achievement in Literary Arts
Psychology student Ifeoluwa Bada received UT's Roy Crane Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Literary Arts for 2018. Psychology Undergraduate Students Receive Unrestricted Endowed Presidential Residential Scholarships for 2018–19
Eight Psychology undergraduate students have received scholarships through UT's Unrestricted Endowed Presidential Scholarship (UEPS) program. The UEPS program was created in 1973 to make available substantial scholarships to outstanding students at The University of Texas at Austin.
Each spring, UEPS recipients are nominated by their academic department and must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.75, among other prerequisites. Nominated students that demonstrate continuous participation in extracurricular activities and exhibit leadership in addition to being enrolled full-time are given the strongest consideration. Psy Undergrad Matthew "Micky" Wolf Awarded Texas Parents Association's 2018 Outstanding Student Award
Psychology undergraduate student Matthew "Micky" Wolf was awarded the 2018 Outstanding Student Award by the Texas Parents Association. Every year since 1951, Texas Parents has proudly honored a male and female Outstanding Student recipient and four Outstanding Student finalists who demonstrate exceptional leadership, scholarship, character and service. Micky is a former Student Government Vice President and worked in Prof. Caryn Carlson's Well-being in Context Lab. Stephanie Savicki (Lifespan Development Lab) and Anna Sedlacek (Buss Evolutionary Psychology Lab) have each been awarded the Psychology Department's Janet T. Spence Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award for 2018. Each year the Psychology Department calls for nominations for outstanding performance by a graduate student teaching assistant in honor of Dr. Janet T. Spence, a major figure in American psychology and Professor Emeritus of the UT Department of Psychology. (4/11/2018)
Graduate Student Dolly Rojo Selected for 2018 Janet T. Spence Outstanding Assistant Instructor Award
Dolly Rojo (Language Development Lab), was awarded the Psychology Department's 2018 Janet T. Spence Outstanding Assistant Instructor Award. The award is given annually to a Psychology assistant instructor nominated by Psychology Department faculty and judged as exemplary. (4/11/2018)
Two Psychology Graduates on 2018 Dean's Distinguished Graduates Honorable Mention List
Emily Barnes (Psychology [Special Honors]/Plan II Honors Program) and Caroline Miller (Psychology [Special Honors; College Honors]/French) were recipients of the College of Liberal Arts Dean's Distinguished Graduates Honorable Mention for 2018. The College instituted this award in 1980 to recognize graduating Liberal Arts students who have distinguished themselves in the areas of scholarship, leadership, and service to the College and University community. Celeste Saucedo and Emma Holmes Awarded First-Place Prizes at 121st Annual Meeting of the Texas Academy of Science
Two students of Prof. Francisco Gonzalez-Lima's Lab were awarded first-place prizes at the 121st Annual Meeting of the Texas Academy of Science. Graduate student Celeste Saucedo was awarded the First Prize Award for Best Graduate Student Presentation for her presentation, "Laser-Enhanced Sustained Attention and Working Memory in Neurocognitive Disorder." Undergraduate thesis student Emma Holmes was awarded Winner of Best Undergraduate Neuroscience Poster for her presentation, "Cerebral Hemodynamic Effects of Transcranial Infrared Laser Stimulation Measured with Functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy." Undergraduate Students Nathalia Simonetti and Maria Cowley Awarded David Ivey Scholarships
Psychology undergraduates Nathalia Simonetti and Maria Cowley received the David Howard Ivey Memorial Endowed Scholarship for 2017-2018. The David Ivey Scholarships are designed to rewards students who have displayed a commitment to community service while excelling in their academics at UT. Maria Cowley volunteered for the past four years in the Critical Care Unit at the Seton Medical Center in Kyle. Nathalia Simonetti has volunteered in the Emergency Department at Dell Children’s Medical Center and as a mentor with Mount Nebo Austin. (1/24/2018)

Eunjun (EJ) Lee-Furman Receives Psychology Department Staff Excellence Award
Psychology Department Research Coordinator Eunjun (EJ) Lee-Furman was awarded the Department's Staff Excellence Award for 2017–18. EJ manages IRB reviews, subject pool management, and is the SONA Administrator for the department, as well handles tavel, faculty travel grants and cash advances, among other things. Billie Pierce Awarded UT's Outstanding Supervisor Award
Psychology Department Executive Assistant Billie Pierce received the UT President's Staff Award for Outstanding Supervisor for 2018. She was one of only two staff members—from over 100 nominees—to receive this prestigious award. The Supervisor Awards program honors and recognizes the invaluable contributions of two outstanding supervisors who have had a significant impact on the university. (3/30/2018)
